Gnomes are guardians of the Earth’s minerals and their work is always in connection with the Earth. Today they helped big hands and small as we tidied the kindergarten garden. During the half term the children and their families carried out a few tasks around the garden in preparation of their return next week. Small hands used their rakes to create leaf piles for small creatures to find warmth in. Larger hands helped free the apple trees from encroaching elder. This busying of bodies around the garden reminded me that the gnomes are always busy this time of year as they gather in seed pods and fruits; that they are never without a lantern as it is their task to carry the sun, moon and stars down to the roots.
The gnomes are surely aware that the fiery Michaelmas candle has made way first for the orange glow of the turnip lantern and then for the coloured paper lanterns of Martinmas”

And as Autumn comes to a close, they will surely enjoy the warmth that a bonfire in the garden brings. We hope you and your families have been able to enjoy this beautiful season and will join us as we mark our transition from Martinmas through to the beginning of Advent.
